Inspiration
We were inspired by nutrition apps that we had previously encountered, and wanted to give our own shot at it.
What it does
MUNCHR can take image inputs to recognize food and add it to a diet tracker. Once it does that, it can provide diet advice for your nutrient intake. The most notable feature about this application is that it will ALSO compare local prices for the food, allowing for a healthier lifestyle that also doesn't cost as much.
How we built it
Two of our team worked on the frontend, while another two worked on the backend. While our efforts were mostly disconnected until the end, we kept in constant communication in order to ensure that our program remained compatible.
Challenges we ran into
We originally were going to use a separate API to compare prices, but ultimately ended up with choosing to utilize the Gemini AI for both budgeting and taking inputs.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to coordinate a pretty even split between effort on the Frontend and Backend. The UI and code looks clean.
What we learned
We learned how to utilize Gemini's API and structure responses.
What's next for Munchr
We hope that this application can be used as an example as to how AI can help people in everyday budgeting.
