Inspiration

MunchMinder was inspired by all of us living in apartments and having to buy groceries to make food. We all struggle with remembering when the food we buy expires which causes the food to go bad and for students and people in the community to waste money. This is where MunchMinder comes into play to help remind us when our food is going to go bad and help us come up with recipes for those foods.

How it Works

MunchMinder works by having users input the name of the food item they bought as well as the expiration date into our system. Our system then calculates how many days are left before the food expires and sends a notification to the user when the food that they bought is close to expiring. Our program also is connected to Google and allows the users to have the option of searching up recipes on the internet for the foods that they have in their fridge.

Challenges

The challenges that we faced during this project was struggling with how to connect the ingredients entered into the system with Google to come up with recipes that the user could make with the foods. We also struggled with coming up with a good programming structure using different imported files such as Scanner and GUI to create an actual screen for the user to use.
