munchies
truck to door service
What it is
munchies aims to repurpose the food truck business model. While trucks generally remain stationary for extended periods of time – hoping wistfully that passersby will congregate and buy food – munchies proposes an alternative model. Instead of waiting for consumers (i.e. eaters) to congregate around suppliers (i.e. food trucks), suppliers will congregate to demarcated areas of highest consumer demand for designated amounts of time.
How it works
Consumers open munchies and are immediately presented with a list of food trucks in their vicinity. Users are then able to “vote” for certain trucks to set up shop near their location. At the end of each “Voting Session,” the most popular food trucks in each vicinity will head to a centralized location for easier consumer access. This location is demarcated by a star on the “heat map.”
For a given period, each truck will stay in their designated location, during which time a new Voting Session will commence. Consumers will be able to see a countdown of time over the food truck alerting them to how long they have to visit the truck in that designated area. They will receive an alert when the food truck is headed to a new area and a special alert if it is headed to their specific location.
Just as each food truck will travel from most popular location to most popular location, the heat map will be accessible for food trucks who were not chosen to specifically serve one geographical area. The size of each circle on the heat map corresponds with the total number of users voting in that area. Larger circles (higher demand) will naturally attract more food trucks to congregate nearby (higher supply).
munchies effectively eliminates the inherent disconnect in the supply and demand markets for food trucks, facilitating a free-flow channel of information between consumer and producer.
