💡 Inspiration 💡

According to a new study, an average American spends about 40 minutes daily thinking about what and where to eat. Consider how much you can do in 40 minutes. That may be the time you spend traveling to work, working on exercise, watching your favorite Netflix show, or eating a meal. That is the average time surveys reported merely thinking about eating. Looking at the broader picture, this amounts to more than 240 hours yearly or more than 10 days.

As Zuckerberg said during a public Q&A session in 2014, "I want to clear my life to make it so that I have to make as few decisions as possible about anything except how to serve this community best." I wanted to do something similar here with food and time

❓What it does ❓

Munchie suggests a few restaurant selections and allows you to pick between them in a fun game based on your customized profile. It considers your budget, dietary restrictions, cuisine choices, and restaurant location.

After their visit, the user can provide feedback on whether or not they like the restaurant, and Munchie will customize future alternatives accordingly.

🏗️How we built it 🏗️

I used HTML, CSS, Javascript, and Bootstrap for the front end. We utilized Flask for the backend and the chatbot, SQLITE for CRUD, and Twilio to build the Bot.

Note: I could not use WhatsApp buttons since it is only available for business numbers, but I will indeed implement that feature when the idea is implemented at a large scale.

🚧Challenges we ran into🚧

To get a head start, I had to scour the internet for information, and things weren't easy because I hadn't utilized any libraries to create the Bot. However, through overcoming these challenges, I gained vital experience.

✅Accomplishments that we're proud of✅

When implemented on a large scale, the idea will benefit many consumers owing to its ability to save time in decision-making. In this situation, I extensively studied UI/UX designs while analyzing client requirements and developed a user-friendly interface that required little text input.

🙋‍♂️What we learned🙋‍♂️

I learned a lot during the weekend. I found out —

-Flask can construct web apps that are quick, scalable, and easy to use. -Twilio allows you to create unique solutions easily. How using Flask helps us to build backends faster. - - Frontend development and design

Finally, I learned a lot from Clockhacks during the weekend.

💭What's next for Munchie💭

Future ambitions for Munchie include a more personalized approach to data and additional features such as a recommendation engine based on NLP on reviews and collecting training data for better personalization.

We plan to provide more comprehensive analytic capabilities to help users understand and examine their food patterns, suggesting healthier options. Improving the user experience and chat functionality is also on the plan.
