Inspiration

Many review apps, such as Yelp, cater to a broad audience, often missing the specific needs of college students and individuals looking for cost-effective dining options. There is a lack of platforms that focus on providing tailored recommendations for budget-conscious users.

What it does

It provides an unbiased review app for budget friendly local restaurants that may appeal to low income students. Functions include suggestions for restaurants in your area, fair rating/review system.

How we built it

We intend to create a mobile app with React Native matching the UI provided in the video. We will have a database storing user data and have a map where the user can interact with to find restaurants around and near campus. It will be like google maps where each restaurant’s location is pinned on the map.

Challenges we ran into

The main focus of our app is to provide low-budget students with information about the local restaurants in the neighborhood and cater the suggestions to individual preferences. This means that we need data/feedback from students to know exactly what students want. We didn’t have much data to begin with so for now, there isn’t much to base the suggestions off on.

What we learned

It is hard to create a startup from scratch to compete with major companies like Yelp.com or other relevant review apps. It is important to learn how to market our product and present it to our target audiences and efficiently collect feedback to implement into the app to further improve it.

What's next for munch n' go

Moving forward, we plan to bring features like partnering with local restaurants to provide in-app discounts and expand beyond restaurants near college campuses.
