Inspiration

We've both struggled with dieting in the past, and the biggest problem was counting calories and macros. When cooking, it takes a lot of time to research every ingredient separately, find the nutrition info for all of them, and then properly calculate the proportions. To fix this, we invented Munch.ai, a platform that does the heavy lifting for you.

What it does

Munch.ai takes a list of ingredients and quantities, or simply a picture, and tells you the total calories, carbs, fat, and protein. It also provides helpful suggestions to make the meal healthier or more cost-efficient. It can also take an image of a recipe as input, so you don't have to bother with manually typing everything in.

How we built it

We used Django and Python for our backend, with CSS and Bootstrap for our frontend. We harnessed state-of-the-art AI models like GPT-4 and Nutritionix to power our backend as well.

Challenges we ran into

Our main challenges were with designing the website. We wanted a sleek and seamless interface that was easy to use, and getting everything to look perfect took a long time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud of how the website turned out. It looks futuristic and sleek, which is exactly what we were going for.

What we learned

We learned a lot about using CSS to style pages, using Django, and interacting with APIs.

What's next for Munch.ai

Next, we want to increase convenience even further, by making it so you can simply take a picture of food and get instant nutrition info - no recipe needed!
