Inspiration: MummaCare was inspired by my mom, who is a nurse. During our discussions, she shared the real challenges expectant mothers face—tracking health, remembering medical documents, and knowing which pregnancy products are safe. Hearing these struggles motivated me to create a solution that truly supports mothers throughout their pregnancy journey.
What I Learned: Building this project taught me how to integrate frontend frameworks (React + Vite), manage state for health tracking, and connect with AI services like Goose API for safe, empathetic guidance. I also learned the importance of user-centered design, making an app that is simple, accessible, and reliable for expectant mothers.
How I Built It:
Frontend: React + Vite for a responsive, interactive interface.
Backend: Node.js (currently simple, planned full database integration for health records and document storage).
AI Integration: Goose API (Claude Sonnet 4.5) to answer common pregnancy questions safely.
Features:
Health Tracking (BP, sugar, other metrics)
Document Storage (medical reports)
AI Chatbot (safe guidance with disclaimers)
Product Listing (pregnancy-safe products and accessories)
Challenges Faced:
Understanding complex medical terms as an engineering student required extensive research.
Designing a UI that is simple yet informative for mothers.
Ensuring the AI provides guidance without replacing professional medical care.
Outcome: MummaCare is an all-in-one companion for expectant mothers, helping them track their health, monitor fetal status, assess risk factors, receive AI-guided corrective suggestions, and access safe pregnancy products—all in a single, accessible web app.
