Inspiration
A couple months ago, several members of our group looked for an application that helps us memorize new MTG cards. When we were unable to find such a program, we decided to make one to help out all MTG players.
What it does
Our program quizzes the user on different MTG cards from a chosen set by showing them the picture on a card. Then, the user can write the name and converted mana cost of the card to reveal that part of the card. If they give up, they can flip the card and are given another card.
How we built it
We built a GUI to allow the user to interact with our program. We also found information about the cards online and extracted the data. We also fetch images of the cards online so that we don't need to store hundreds of photos. We then spliced the photos so that they only show a certain part of the card.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge we ran into was creating the GUI. We found that with the more we would add to the GUI, the more tedious it would get to perfect the GUI. We also ran into a java bug where jpeg images would look blurry.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully finished our program after hours of debugging!
What's next for MTG Quiz App
We are planning to add more MTG cards to be quizzed on. We also plan to add in other features such as categorizing by card type, quizzing by name and adding the power, toughness, creature type and legendary status.
