Inspiration
Our inspiration comes from our own personal experiences as MSU students and the struggle to find class groupchats through informal methods such as shared snap stories or direct messaging friends in the same class to add us to groupchats. These class groupchats were often full of random students from the class and excluded many of our peers who did not have access to the groupchat or simply did not know about it. Communication for group projects has often taken many forms as well, depending on what apps the other group members have installed or what type of phone they have which can be frustrating since the project groupchats from class to class are not on a consistent platform and each platform has different limitations.
What it does
It allows users to input their MSU email address and add different courses that they are apart of to their classes on the app. Once they have added a class, they will be added to the class groupchat on MSU connect. They are able to direct message other users in their classes or create subgroups which is useful for group projects or study groups.
How we built it
We built the prototype for our app using Figma and have begun the coding of our app using Xcode.
Challenges we ran into
The coding of our app is more extensive and time consuming then we expected which led to us switching our goal from finishing the coding and making it fully functional, to creating a prototype and using the remaining time to work on our code which will be completed after Spartahack.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We have never used Xcode or Figma before so we are proud that we were able to figure out how to use both of those in the creation of our prototype and the beginning of our coding for the app.
What we learned
We learned that app development is extremely complex and requires a lot more time and code than we had initially realized. We learned how to utilize Figma to make a prototype and how to begin using the prototype as a basis for the code itself.
What's next for MSU Connect
The next step is to complete the coding of the interface for MSU Connect in order to actually implement features and design which are outlined in our prototype.
