MR. PIGGYBANKBUDDY

Our Mr PiggyBankBuddy avatar

Inspiration

We took the idea of a piggy bank and anthropomorphized it into a Mr Piggy avatar in order to educate children on the benefits of saving money regularly

What it does

Mr Piggy is a character in our app. He lives in Successville and needs help allocating where his money goes. When he saves his money, Mr Piggy earns stars which can be redeemed for fun accessories. However, if Mr Piggy chooses to spend all his money elsewhere, he no longer earns stars and must create his wardrobe from scratch again.

How we built it

Adapted from [link]https://github.com/abhisarahuja/create_chatbot_using_python , we created a working chatbot that is programmed to respond to questions about finances, geared towards young people. This chatbot will be integrated into our app as a way for teens to ask questions inside the game, explaining the consequences behind Mr Piggy's financial success.

Challenges we ran into

There were some problems with Python modules clashing, preventing our code from running properly.

First time creating our own original logo with blendr FIRST TIME ENTERING A HACKATHON!!!!

What's next for MR. PiggyBankBuddy

We hope to take MR. PiggyBankBuddy to INFINITY (like the theme of this year's DurHack)!! As the app grows we could include an integrated social media platform so you can tour your friends' Successvilles, and check out their personalised avatars, that they earn from completing their savings goals, encouraging community and inspiring you and your friends to save a percentage of their allowance (percentage of allowance to keep anonymity as some friends may receive more allowance than others) and gain financial literacy. We also thought about incorporating vr so the user can more easily visualise their savings goals and their investments, in the real world, this will make it very accessible to the 10-14 age range.
