Inspiration
Our build idea was inspired by WebMD, but we mainly noticed how there was a lack of malware awareness in our school. People over the intercom had to be warned about phishing emails instead of being able to innately recognize them. This, in an age of technology, is incredibly dangerous for our future.
What it does
Our app allows users to input the symptoms their computer is having, and after running a large if-then statement, diagnosis the computer with 1 of 6 malware types.
How we built it
We built our app in Java through code.org.
Challenges we ran into
Well, we had to make the app colorblind friendly so that everyone can see it. We also had to make text bigger in certain parts so that the visually impaired may be able to see it easier. The language for the diagnoses had to be simplified because a majority of people don't understand tech jargon.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We've overcome many hurdles, like bugs that were so entrenched in the code that removing them was nigh-impossible. There was also the case of one of our team members being absent frequently, but we managed to work around that, so it didn't interrupt our workflow.
What we learned
We learned about collaboration and teamwork, opening up our walls to different perspectives. We also re-learned a lot of the stuff we knew about coding, and it proves that with consistent practice and dedication, anyone can code.
What's next for Mr. Malware, Malware Identifier
Well, if we get picked up, we plan on adding a multi-diagnosis feature. We also have plans for an Email and File checker, and potentially premium features such as an adblocker extension.
