Inspiration

Our inspiration to make this project was to prove that you can do a long form story using Gen Ai with full consistency and real actors. Lots of Ai films come across as uncanny documentaries, we really wanted to tell a narrative story that pokes fun at the industry now and where its going.

What it does

We prioritized an ethical, artist-first approach harnessing real performances while ensuring creative control always remained with the actors and artists. This project pushed the boundaries of current AI filmmaking technologies by successfully converting a filmed table read into a finished short film. It demonstrates the potential for this new technology to turbo-charge ultra-low-budget, independent film projects.

How we built it

We’ve developed a new hybrid AI-VFX workflow that gives filmmakers complete creative control at every stage of production.

Using 4D Gaussian scanning, we capture actors’ full performances in motion—preserving every nuance, gesture, and expression with stunning precision. Real camera movements are transferred directly into the virtual environment, allowing the Director of Photography to stay fully involved on set and maintain authentic cinematic language.

Every angle, movement, and lighting setup remains editable—just like in a high-end VFX pipeline—bridging the gap between traditional filmmaking and AI-assisted creation.

Challenges we ran into

The whole project was challenging. We pushed hard to meet the deadline for the Chroma Awards creating the whole film on a tight 3 week deadline. Because lots of the technology is new, we had to do lots of R&D and experimentation to keep the quality consistent.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

What began as a simple, filmed table read with real actors in a 4DGS volume was transformed into a fully realized cinematic sequence—while keeping the creative team in total control from start to finish.

What we learned

We learned that the nuances of human performance can go hand and hand with Ai filmmaking. You don't have to compromise between one or the other.

What's next for Mr. A List

This project stands as a proof of concept for the next generation of content creation, showing how AI can extend the power of filmmakers, enhance storytelling, and unlock high-production value even on smaller budgets. We've already written and shot part of the second episode and are looking to create more episodes in this universe.
