Inspiration

I noticed that wellness goals can feel overwhelming when someone is already stressed or struggling. And Existing wellness apps can feel like trackers/tasks rather than something personal. So I wanted to build something that combines emotional support + actionable goals. Something that don't just tell someone what they should do; help them take the next manageable step and adapt when they struggle.

What it does

moyo is an AI wellness companion. Users can talk to moyo about how they're feeling, create wellness goals, receive manageable first steps, and check in on their progress. When a user struggles with a step, moyo can use that feedback to help make the next step more realistic instead of treating it as failure.

How we built it

I built moyo using Next.js, React, and TypeScript, with Groq powering the AI interactions. I used persistent storage for conversations and goals and deployed the application with Vercel. The main idea behind the architecture was to connect conversation, goals, check-ins, and adaptation into one experience rather than treating them as separate features.

Challenges we ran into

Building MOYO during a short hackathon came with a lot of challenges. I dealt with frontend and API issues, state and persistence bugs, deployment differences between our development environment and production, and limited time for testing. One of our biggest challenges was making sure the AI experience actually connected properly with the rest of the application instead of just producing responses.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud that i turned the idea into a working, deployed product within the hackathon timeframe tbh. I'm especially proud of the adaptive goal system because moyo doesn't just give users a goal it creates a smaller action, lets the user check in, and uses that feedback to influence what comes next. We also created a visual identity for moyo that makes the experience feel more personal than a typical chatbot.

What we learned

I learned that building an AI product isn't just about connecting an AI model to an API. The surrounding UX, state management, persistence, and reliability are just as important. I also learned that wellness experiences need to be careful about how they respond to people and should support users without pretending to replace professional care.

What's next for Moyo

I want to make MOYO more personalized and accessible over time. Next steps include improving voice interaction, making goal adaptation more sophisticated, strengthening privacy and user data controls, and expanding the types of wellness routines MOYO can support while maintaining appropriate safety boundaries.
