Film production is one of the most complex, high-stakes creative industries in the world. A single feature movie involves hundreds of cast and crew members coordinating across script breakdown, casting, weather logistics, shooting schedules, music scoring, and budget allocation.

Currently, production departments work in disconnected silos—relying on static PDFs, fragmented spreadsheets, endless email threads, and manual phone calls. When a sudden rainstorm hits a filming location or a script scene changes, the ripple effect causes costly delays and miscommunication across the entire production.

We built MovieOS to solve this: an all-in-one, AI-powered Cinema Operating System that unites Directors, Producers, Music Directors, Actors, and Studio Chiefs in real time.

MovieOS creates an interconnected, real-time operating ecosystem with specialized workflows for every cinema department:

Director Suite & Screenplay Breakdown: Upload PDF screenplays or paste script text. Google Gemini AI automatically analyzes the narrative structure, extracting numbered scenes, characters, shot locations, lighting requirements (INT/EXT), and estimated shooting days.
Producer Workspace & Live Weather Radar: Extracted scenes automatically generate shooting call sheets. Our integrated Weather Intelligence Agent cross-references exterior locations against real-time global satellite meteorological data (OpenWeather & Open-Meteo), assessing precipitation hazards, wind velocity safety for boom mics and cranes, and temperature limits.
Music Director & Sonic Studio: AI-driven score composition tailored to screenplay scenes and character arcs. Includes an in-browser Web Audio harmonic synthesizer for live cue previews, audio stem management, and direct director review sign-offs.
Actor Portal & AI Acting Coach: Cast members receive digital offer dispatches, manage verified filmographies, and use the AI Acting Coach for subtext analysis, emotional tone preparation, and line rehearsal.
Studio Admin & Executive Oversight: Multi-role access control (RBAC), production budgets, ledger accounting, and real-time Firestore cloud synchronization.

How we built it

AI Core: Google Gemini 3.6 / 3.7 Flash Engine via Google GenAI SDK for lightning-fast screenplay NLP breakdown, narrative analysis, and musical motif generation.
Backend: High-performance asynchronous Python FastAPI backend with structured Pydantic schemas.
Database & Cloud: Google Firebase Firestore for real-time document synchronization across roles, Firebase Auth for RBAC security, and Firebase Storage for audio stems and screenplay PDFs.
Meteorological Intelligence: Dual-provider live weather telemetry engine combining OpenWeather API and Open-Meteo satellite feeds for real-time risk scoring.
Frontend Architecture: Modern React 18, Vite, TailwindCSS, Lucide Icons, and Recharts for cinematic data visualization.
Audio Engine: Web Audio API synthesizer for real-time musical chord progression and frequency waveform rendering.

Challenges we ran into

Cross-Role Real-Time Synchronization: Ensuring that when a Director updates or uploads a screenplay, the Producer’s shooting schedules, department budgets, and the Music Director’s cues synchronize immediately without data conflicts.
Screenplay NLP Parsing: Screenplays have diverse, non-standard formatting. We engineered robust prompts and schema validators with Gemini AI to reliably extract scene headings, locations, and dialogue even from raw text and complex multi-page PDFs.
Weather Geocoding for Filming Locations: Script locations often include scene tags (e.g. "EXT. MARINA BEACH, CHENNAI - DAY"). We built intelligent location-sanitizing algorithms to parse filming sites into geographic coordinates for real-time weather risk evaluation.

What we learned

How to orchestrate multi-agent workflows where the output of one role (e.g., Director's script extraction) dynamically seeds and configures the workspace of another role (e.g., Producer's weather and call sheets).
Deep integration with the Google GenAI SDK for structured JSON generation and reliable prompt design.
