Inspiration
We wanted a fun way for people to be recommended movies instead of scrolling through Netflix or Youtube.
What it does
It's a quiz that identifies a person's preferences in movies and creates a personalized list of movies from an IMDb based API.
How we built it
Through React JS and the library modules from MUI, we combined both the front-end development of the quiz together with the back-end development of the functions that create the personalized list in the background. Together, we delivered a simplistic, yet highly effective movie chooser.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges we ran into was our complete inexperience in any of the languages that we had to use to create this project. From JS, to HTML, to CSS, to React JS, we struggled every step of the way to understand the different philosophies of the languages and how to implement them to deliver the vision that we wanted to create.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
What we're most proud of, overall in this project, was our sheer determination. Of course, we stumbled, had roadblocks, and rage quit more times than we would care to admit. But we studied the languages, we gained new knowledge and perspectives on how designers implement these tools in the real world, and we applied what we could to create something that we thought we'd never be able to finish.
What we learned
We started from absolutely nothing. That's the truth of it: plain and simple. Over time, we understood more and more about new languages and topics.
What's next for Movie Recommendation Quiz
We hope to expand on its titles and implement an AI to take the customization of the movie catalogue that we deliver to the next level.
