Movie Picker

Inspiration

Our inspiration was Tinder and we wanted to make an application that was similar but for movies.

What it does

Our application takes an input of a user's favorite movies and adds them to a pile that can then be sent to a party given an invite code and allows each member of the party to vote on their favorite movie to watch.

How we built it

We used Express.js running off of Node.js, we also used Socket.io to make the parties, we also used HTML, React, and CSS.

Challenges we ran into

Express documentation not being fully up to date and implementing web sockets into react along with connecting our project to a server in which we used a Raspberry Pi.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The website works and the styling came out better than we were expecting as well as the party function which is quite unique and ended up being harder than expected.

What we learned

Break the project up into smaller portions and don't get overwhelmed also React is a beast to learn and was a great mental challenge to overcome.

What's next for Movie Picker

We would like to make this useable for mobile devices and implement the swiping function as we ran out of time to do these things as well as polish the overall design.
