Inspiration

Have you ever wondered who the actors/actresses are and about their personal information when you are watching a movie? If so, our hackthon product Movie Eyes can help you identify any actors/actresses you like.

What it does

Movie Eyes reads in any movies or tv series and identifies the actors/actresses on the fly. While the movie is playing, it captures the face of the actors by using a facial recognition system, compares the face with the sample faces in our database, and then shows a list of actors'/actresses’ information right next to the video player. Movie Eyes will tell you the actor's name, profile, photo, birthday, biography, a list of other works, and his or her recent news.

How we built it

The front-end is playing a video in HTML5 elements. Then capture the picture of current frame using HTML5 canvas and send it to server. Server get the top 5 related actors/actresses. And return the information of the first actor/actress.

What's next for Movie Eyes

We believe that our product has a very bright future and it can be extended to many other fields.

For example, in sport live shows on the TV, Movie Eyes can show the information of the players on the court and help the audience enjoy the game better.

Another example is that in advertising industry, this technology can be used to detect stars in the video and show their related ads dynamically. As a result, it may improve the click rate of these ads.
