Movidex's Inspiration

Inspired by the endless yearning to search for the next best movie to watch. To limit the endless scrolling through movies on Netflix, Prime Video, Max etc.

What it does

Through the use of TMDB I have displayed various lists of movies for the user to view based on the movies that are currently in theaters, highly rated, and upcoming. A YouTube video trailer is provided with each movie. The user can chat with Stan, a trusty ai assistant, he will recommend movies based on any preference you give him and can answer any questions about the movies as well.

Framework and how it was built

Components were built using react and all of the styling was done with CSS. A watchlist and rated list are maintained for each user and are stored in a firebase cloud database.

What are some challenges I faced

The TMDB API was giving a key to a YouTube video in Arabic even though the query included 'en-US' . After creating a discussion they said that it was a mistake on their end. At times it was tricky to handle the events between components.

Accomplishments that I am proud of

At the end of the day I created a functioning web application that allows account creation and sign-on processes, movie viewing and interaction, as well as configuring the storage and retrieval of data. Chatgpt 4 is integrated into an integral component and can recommend movies that meet the needs of most if not all requests.

What I learned

Working hands on with the openai module and customizing it to fit the needs of my project was a real crowning achievement for me.
