Inspiration

It’s not easy to move to Singapore. There are many things to consider, from applying for Visas to making sure our pets can be relocated. Keeping track of all these is a hassle, because it means constantly looking up the relevant websites. It could be even more challenging for the people who are not familiar with the services provided in Singapore.

What it does

Reduce the hassle of as many of the individual tasks as possible, for instance storing user profile as MoveInfo (inspired by Myinfo) to retrieve personal details with “One Click” for filling up required application forms Consolidate a list of services right at the user’s fingertips to save time having to scour the internet and manually perform price comparisons Organize the necessary tasks into a simple checklist so that the user can have a peace of mind knowing that they are completely prepared for the move Create a platform for people who are moving to Singapore or new to Singapore so that the user can share their experiences and learn from others’ experiences to ease the transition

How we built it

  • As two of our team members have experience moving to Singapore, therefore we conducted an interview to understand the user journey and discover their pain points.
  • After gathering the pain points and the solutions they wish they had, we spent the next few hours exploring what is offered by the current market and brainstorming how we could synergize the offered services to solve those pain points.
  • After brainstorming the ideas, we evaluated the ideas based on the priority of the problems it solves and its effectiveness.
  • As the primary issue is the user being overwhelmed by the number of tasks and unfamiliar with the required applications, we aspire to solve it with our mobile app, MoveSG.

  • Next, we spent most of our remaining time developing and refining our Figma prototype so that we can get the users to try it out as soon as possible as what we learned from the workshop.

  • We also built our Flutter app skeleton at the same time so that we can move on quickly to develop a MVP once we complete our high-fidelity Figma prototype.

  • We decided to use Flutter as it supports both Android and iOS platforms, so it helps to reach the large user base.

Challenges we ran into

  • We initially intended to come up with novel and big ideas to improve the process of moving to Singapore. However, after spending quite some time, we realised it is not the individual process that is troublesome, in fact most of the process is quite straightforward, but it is the decentralisation of the information and the need of keeping track of different applications that affect the overall experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Walking through the user journey with the team members who have experiences the moving to Singapore process
  • Brainstorming ideas to improve the moving process and synergizing the solutions offered by the current market
  • Building a high-fidelity prototype with Figma

What we learned

  • Use a user journey map to fully understand the user’s experience, and identify pain points
  • Brainstorm ideas and prioritize ideas
  • Build prototype with Figma

What's next for MoveSG

  • Further discover the tedious administrative process of moving to Singapore
  • Develop a MVP as a mobile app with Flutter
  • Build a platform to connect those who are moving to Singapore and new to Singapore for them to share their experiences
