MOVE — Gamified Cashew Learning Platform
MOVE is a mobile-first, gamified agricultural education platform built for smallholder cashew farmers in Ghana. Inspired by Duolingo's learning mechanics, MOVE transforms complex agronomic knowledge into short, engaging lessons that farmers can complete on any smartphone — earning real rewards as they grow their skills.
The platform is structured as a learning journey across 8 sections covering the full cashew value chain: from understanding the crop's biology and climate needs, through planting, pruning, pest management, harvesting, and post-harvest handling, all the way to value addition and market access.
Each lesson follows a two-phase flow — a Learn phase with illustrated content slides, followed by a Quiz phase that tests comprehension. Correct answers earn XP (experience points), which accumulate on a visible progress bar and feed into a competitive leaderboard. Farmers who stay consistent build daily streaks, unlocking badges that reflect their growing expertise — from Seedling all the way to Cashew Master.
XP is not just symbolic. The built-in Rewards Store lets farmers redeem their points for tangible farm inputs and incentives: cashew seedling packs, fertiliser vouchers, pruning knife vouchers, mobile airtime, and GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) certificates — creating a direct link between learning and livelihood.
MOVE was built as a pitch to GIZ Ghana's MOVE–ComCashew programme, which supports cashew sector development across Ghana's Northern and Brong-Ahafo regions. The prototype was developed in 48 hours during a hackathon using React, Vite, and Tailwind CSS, with a localStorage-based player system designed to scale into a full backend with user accounts, real reward fulfilment, and extension officer dashboards.
