The problem your project solves

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted our notion of normality.

With many countries implementing lockdown and social distance measures, citizens join the efforts of front line workers to tackle the virus by following a simple, yet powerful motto: STAY HOME, SAVE LIVES.

This means that thousands of workers used to work in offices and other traditional spaces have transitioned to remote work from their homes.

Their daily routine has been deeply impacted: they don’t walk or cycle to work, they don’t have lunch break with their colleagues, they don’t gather in a room for a meeting or take a coffee break. Professions that are usually sedentary, now are even more so. People spend more time sitting in front of their computer, with a toll on their health.

In addition, all this happens in a context where stress and anxiety levels are on the rise because of the COVID-19 situation.

Results from a survey we did as part of this hackathon show that 88,5% of people who work in front of a computer have experienced an impact on their health. 71% of them expressed that they experience physical pain on their bodies, while 57% fear they have lost their usual work routine, like stopping for lunch.

The solution you bring to the table

Our mission is to help people transition into healthier work routines.

We have designed a web based desktop app for individual users and companies that provides quick and specific advice to improve your wellbeing in three areas: social, mental and physical.

The product provides notifications and a chatbot assistant that can be customizable in areas of interest and by time of the day, so the user can adapt the suggestions to their work hours and commitments.

There are different levels of intensity, but the tone is always positive and friendly. Under the current context, our product aims to avoid additional stress or anxiety in users.

The main characteristic of the solution can be summarised in:

  • Actions required from the user are quick, so that they can easily continue with their work
  • Is customizable, so that users can choose when to participate and in which areas, so that they don’t get notifications that they don’t need or in a time that is not suitable for them
  • Has a holistic vision of health, including physical, mental and social
  • Is supportive: the tone of the notification and chatbot is positive, non-pushing. It acts as a “buddy”
  • Encourages teamwork while participating in team challenges and specific actions that encourage interaction between teammates
  • It recognises activity on Slack or Zoom meeting to be displayed after a possible meeting to suggest a break
  • Has been designed under the specific covid-19 context, so we aim to encourage people and not create additional stress. Our message is positive
  • Company’s version will give customisation options and give access to admin roles to manage internal supportive and rewarding wellbeing programmes.

The initial prototype is the free version for individual users, but can be scaled later to create a company profile that will be paid. It has been designed to be launched in Europe in English, but can eventually be localized for other markets and languages.

According to our market research, there are many mobile apps focused on health, wellbeing or social interaction. As for desktop, options are limited. However, none of them offer a holistic approach to wellbeing, while we include three areas that are vital for a healthy lifestyle: physical, mental and social (which we consider fundamental under a lockdown context).

In addition, there is a limited offer of desktop versions that can be targeted for companies to include in their wellbeing programs.

Finally, none of them uses chat bot incorporated with smart technology to focus on the user’s particular needs.

What you have done during the weekend

What started as an app with short exercise videos to help people take breaks to move away from their desk, transitioned into a solution that includes social, mental and physical actions to improve wellbeing during the COVID-19 situation.

Once we defined the idea, the team divided to work on the business and marketing plan, while the rest worked on a landing page to get traction and the prototype of the basic flow.

With the help of the mentors and information gathered on surveys, competitor analysis and data collection we iterated and adapted the original idea to deliver a notification and chatbot solution.

We faced challenges related to:

  • identify how we could divide the resources we had to complete all the deliverables
  • get information to see if people would use this product
  • iterate and adapt the original idea based on the feedback from the mentors
  • understand which features we would we able to finish and which ones would be for the future
  • learning to work and collaborate with each other, since we only met on Friday and have only interacted online

Based on survey and market research our business model will be subscription base:

PERSONAL level: Free for individuals during pandemic. Free version will be available later on with some limitations. Premium subscription: 3 Eur / month.

TEAM level: Under development. Free for individuals during pandemic. Premium subscription: 1 Eur / team member / month.

CORPORATE level: Under development. 1 month FREE during pandemic. After: Small (under 250 staff) - 0,50 Eur employee / month. Medium (251-500 staff) - 0,30 Eur employee / month. Large (more than 500 staff) - 0,20 Eur employee / month.

The solution’s impact to the crisis

People can make a change for themselves and inspire their colleagues to do the same. With Movamin, users can get clear and quick steps to gradually improve their work habits, but they also get a sense of community in this time of social distance.

While workers adapt to this new scenario of staying at home, Movamin helps them to take care of their health in three aspects: social, mental and physical. Users are encouraged to take quick actions that don’t interfere with their work responsibilities but have a tremendous impact in their wellbeing, like:

  • Do a 2 minute exercise to stretch their back muscles
  • Remember to ask a colleague about their day and how they are doing
  • Do a breathing exercise to help with anxiety after a long meeting
  • Remember to stop for lunch
  • Participate in challenges to do basic healthy actions with a teammate

The necessities in order to continue the project

In order to continue the project, we need financing to carry on with the development of the remaining features, including:

  • more options to personalize profile and adapt the tips and suggestions displayed
  • team management and team challenges
  • integration with other products like calendar or zoom to identify the best time to display notifications
  • Strengthen technically the element of notifications (chat bot) concerning Calm Technology features
  • Develop the paid version targeted for companies
  • Make it compatible with iOS

We also need to:

  • Create more content for the different exercises
  • Support further development of Business model
  • Implement marketing campaigns to reach the desired audience

The value of your solution(s) after the crisis

After the crisis, this can be marketed to other user types that spend many hours in front of the computer, like students.

In addition, companies can include this product into their wellbeing policies to support their staff in their return to the office space once the lockdown is over, in order to cope with anxiety or stress.

This solution can help many people transition back into their routines.

The Marketing Strategy can be targeted to busy workers or those who don’t have a proper work space at home.
