Inspiration
Social media today often encourages scrolling instead of real connection. We wanted to create a space where people can build genuine relationships through shared creativity. Mosaic grew out of the belief that creativity brings people together. Whether it’s writing, music, art, or storytelling, collaboration helps us understand each other on a deeper level.
What it does
Mosaic is a digital platform for co-creation. Users can start or join projects like poems, songs, stories, or artworks and collaborate in real time. They can post individual pieces in galleries, join prompt-based projects, or lead projects based their own themes. AI moderation keeps conversations safe and respectful, and projects are only submitted once all collaborators agree. A finished gallery highlights completed work for everyone to explore.
How we built it
We designed and prototyped Mosaic entirely in Figma, using Figma Make to simulate key user flows and interactions. Once our concept felt solid, we moved to high-fidelity designs that show how users can browse creative categories, connect with others, and build projects together in a clean, focused space.
Challenges we ran into
Working only in Figma was tough. It was our first time using it for such a large project, and learning to translate ideas into interactive prototypes took time. Without coding, we had to get creative about how to show functionality through design alone.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud that Mosaic reimagines how college students connect online. Instead of endless scrolling, it focuses on collaboration and creativity. Even as a prototype, it shows how students can find peers with shared interests and build something meaningful together.
What we learned
We learned how design choices directly shape online behavior. Good UX can encourage collaboration over competition and make digital spaces feel more human.
What's next for Mosaic
Next, we plan to build a working frontend using React. In the long run, we want Mosaic to grow into a full creative community where people connect through making, not through likes.
