Inspiration

Analog horror, VHS snuff movies, online ARGs, the French YouTuber Feldup, and the broader landscape of online horror aesthetics. We drew from the unsettling atmosphere of lost media culture and the raw, corrupted visual language of forgotten VHS tapes to create a digital homage that captures the essence of these analog nightmares.

What it does

Uses a combination of different AI rendering platforms and techniques to create atmospheric shots that blend horror aesthetics with experimental visuals. Each frame keeps our analog horror inspirations embedded within the prompts, ensuring authentic recreation of classic creepypasta and lost media vibes through purely digital means.

How we built it

The AI-rendered images were carefully assembled and synchronized to match Bakû's experimental techno soundscape using DaVinci Resolve. Post-production involved using After Effects plugin "Modulation 2" and "NTSC-rs" to achieve authentic VHS corruption effects, layering digital artifacts that convincingly mimic analog decay without using any actual vintage equipment.

Challenges we ran into

Maintaining visual coherence across characters and backgrounds proved challenging when working with AI-generated content. However, embracing heavy distortions and analog-style corruptions actually provided more creative freedom, allowing inconsistencies to feel intentional and atmospheric rather than problematic.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Creating a genuinely impactful video that resonates on multiple levels - viewers can interpret the imagery through their own sensibilities and horror references.

What we learned

Even when using AI as the primary creative tool, extensive post-production work in DaVinci Resolve was essential - the timeline required countless cuts and careful editing to achieve the final result. We discovered that the more precise and detailed your initial concept and prompts, the closer the AI output matches your creative vision.

What's next for Mort Rose (music video)

Live A/V tour incoming with Bakû and me as her VJ! We're adapting this digital horror aesthetic for live performances, creating immersive experiences that blend her experimental techno with real-time visual manipulation.
