Inspiration
Given the pirate prompt, we thought, "how can we make learning about pirates fun", leading to this.
What it does
Provides the user with two pirates, you're given the life span of the first, and based on a picture and their name, you must guess if the other pirate lived a longer, or shorter life.
How we built it
Using an express.js server hosting an HTML page designed with bootstrap. Powering the backend with a dataset web scraped and organized using Python.
Challenges we ran into
The data was quite dirty once scraped; we had to clean the data carefully to avoid errors and further implement error checking to make sure that any further dirt didn't shut down the server.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The speed of development was very streamlined and organized. With half of the members being new to hackathons the project we made was clean and complete.
What we learned
The original planning process is very important for the design of the project. By organizing before we started the project we were able to make something we're all proud of and that functions exactly how we wanted.
What's next for More or Fewer: The Pirate Guesser
Further expansion of the dataset, more, different, guessing games, and an interface which keeps high scores to compete against
