Inspiration

We were inspired by games like Reigns and Crazy Kingdom from Blooket, so we wanted to make a similar game. We made it a moon colony in order to fit the theme.

What it does

Moonrise Settlement is a simple web-based game where you are tasked with managing a lunar colony and preventing it from having too much or too little population, resources, funding, and relations. The player are prompted with decisions and choose either "yes" or "no" and see what happens. The player must strategically consider their resources and get a bit lucky to win after responding to 100 prompts.

How we built it

We built the backend and game logic in Python using VS Code, and the frontend and website in HTML and CSS. A portion of the code was written using AI, but most of the main functionality is human-written.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into a lot of bugs with implementing the website and coding the game logic. We needed to spend a lot of time debugging, and we only had 24 hours to finish the whole game. We were also relatively inexperienced at programming, and only one of us really knew how to code a website.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We managed to make a fully functional, bug-free, and fun game in only 24 hours. We worked together as a team to write the code, debug, and connect it to the website. We got the website working in the last hour of the time, which was only possible because of how we managed our time.

What we learned

We learned several intricacies related to Python, HTML, and how they interact with each other. We also learned how to work in a group and manage ourselves and each other to get tasks done in small amounts of time. Lastly, we learned just how hard making complex, multifaceted projects like these can be and why it is so hard to make one in only 24 hours.

What's next for Moonrise Settlement

If we had more time, we would have more fully fleshed out the website, created new prompts for the player, created an AI to create new prompts and make the game theoretically endless, playtested the game more to make it more balanced, and/or use a TTS program like ElevenLabs to enhance the website.
