Inspiration

Women’s health is often underrepresented in the digital wellness space. Many existing apps focus only on period tracking without connecting it to mood, productivity, and overall well-being. We wanted to create a simple, science-informed, and culturally adaptable tool that helps women understand their cycles better and make everyday decisions around rest, work, and nutrition.

What it does

Moona is a women’s health tracker that goes beyond dates on a calendar.

  • Tracks menstrual cycles with accurate day and phase calculations.
  • Provides insights into energy levels, focus, and rest needs for each phase.
  • Suggests foods based on region-specific diets that can help balance mood and energy.
  • Allows users to log their mood either through a simple dropdown or natural language input, which is then interpreted by AI for deeper insights.

How we built it

  • Frontend: Vite + TypeScript for a fast, responsive, and user-friendly interface.
  • AI Integration: Gemini AI for mood interpretation and contextual insights.
  • User Experience: Calendar-based inputs to simplify tracking, with clear tooltips and clean suggestions

Challenges we ran into

  • Designing an experience that is both medically accurate and easy to understand.
  • Making recommendations region-specific without overwhelming the user.
  • Balancing privacy concerns while still offering meaningful personalization.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Building an intuitive, single-page experience that avoids complexity.
  • Integrating cycle, mood, and nutrition into one cohesive tool.
  • Creating a framework that can expand into broader women’s health and preventive care.
  • Validating the feasibility of using AI for personalized wellness insights.

What we learned

  • Simplicity is critical—users prefer minimal input fields with clear guidance.
  • Women respond positively to tools that treat health holistically, not just as data points.
  • Region and culture play an important role in wellness recommendations.
  • AI can enhance engagement if used as a supportive companion, not just a data processor.

What's next for Moona

  • Expanding insights to include sleep patterns and exercise recommendations.
  • Adding community features such as anonymous leagues or shared experiences.
  • Building multilingual support to reach women across diverse regions.
  • Exploring integrations with wearables for more accurate health data.
