Inspiration
I always wanted to build a competitive online multiplayer game so I took a risk and gave it a shot. I knew it would be a possible risk because if you don't have an audience for the game, you can't get it started and get stuck in a chicken and egg situation. Hopefully it can get enough traction to get started and then I feel it will be a lot of fun. The more players the better.
What it does
Players have a very simple goal. Build their bridges up with blocks and use your rockets to destroy the other teams bridges. The team that captures the most goals, wins the match. The players can use the money earned from placing down blocks to upgrade their character and become more powerful.
How I built it
One step at a time. I was actually surprised that it took right up until the very end to get everything working. It really needed a bunch of different pieces to come together before it all works.
Challenges I ran into
The ending. I had the game working perfectly and once I tested it online everything broke. Luckily I still had 8 hours to fix things, but I don't know as I'm writing this if I can fix it all.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Getting bridge creation and destruction working while remaining withing world capacity limits. Finally getting UI and upgrades working properly. Somehow getting everything to come together in the final days.
What I learned
I learned that this idea was more ambitious than I thought. I actually had more features that I'm happy that I cut early on, that would have made it impossible to finish on time.
What's next for Moon Wars! Bridge Battles for Helium-3!
There's plenty I would like to add. More maps, special powerups, special in game events and expand the bases and gameplay. Once I can play the game with a full server of people, I'll be able to further improve the game.
