Inspiration

My inspiration came from my love of anime and my dream of creating one of my own. I was also inspired by one of my favorite TV series, Teen Wolf, which tells a story about transformation and identity. With Moon’s Curse, I wanted to bring those ideas into anime, showing a story about loneliness, power, and betrayal under the moonlight.

What it does

Moon’s Curse is a 6-minute anime short film that tells the story of Jiro, a high school boy who is bitten by a wolf and becomes a werewolf. The film shows his struggle to control his powers and the emotional connection he forms with Reika, the girl who teaches him but secretly cursed him. In a short time, it combines drama, suspense, and emotion with anime-style visuals, dialogue, and cinematic effects.

How we built it

We used a combination of AI tools to create Moon’s Curse: -ChatGPT helped edit and refine the script. -Nano Banana generated characters, locations, and scenes. -Seedance was used to create emotional and low-action scenes. -Hailuo AI handled high-action scenes with dynamic movement. -Hedra provided lip-sync for the characters. -OpenArt served as the platform to access and manage all the AI tools. By combining these tools, we were able to bring the story to life with anime-style visuals, animations, and sound, while keeping control of the creative process.

Challenges we ran into

During the creation of Moon’s Curse, we faced several challenges: -Character consistency: Keeping Jiro and Reika looking the same across all scenes required careful adjustment of AI prompts. -AI limitations: Complex crowds and fast action scenes were difficult to generate, so we focused on 1–2 characters per scene. -Lip sync: We could only lip-sync on still images because the AI tools do not fully support anime-style lip sync on video. This limited some of our animation options. -Pacing: Some scenes felt too fast or rushed. We had to slow down certain shots to give the audience time to feel the emotions. -Balancing dialogue and visuals: Learning when to show emotion through visuals rather than words was important to make the story more powerful. These challenges helped us improve our workflow and storytelling for the short film.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of several achievements with Moon’s Curse: -Completing a 6-minute anime short film using AI tools while keeping a consistent anime style. -Successfully telling a story with emotion, drama, and suspense in a short runtime. -Combining multiple AI tools effectively for characters, scenes, animation, and lip-sync, creating a full workflow for independent anime production. -Overcoming challenges with pacing, visuals, and lip-sync to deliver a cohesive and cinematic final product.

What we learned

Creating Moon’s Curse taught me that even one person can make an anime, which once seemed impossible. Since 2018, I dreamed of making my own anime but thought it was too hard and expensive to do alone. By learning and using AI tools, I realized that I can now create characters, scenes, animation, and lip-sync by myself, turning a long-time dream into reality. This project showed me that persistence, learning, and technology can overcome budget and manpower limitations.

What's next for Moon's Curse Anime Short Film

Next, I plan to create a sequel, Moon’s Curse 2, which will follow Jiro after he leaves Reika and explore how he struggles to control his powers alone while facing new challenges and characters. I also want to improve the overall quality of the project with better character designs, smoother animation, and more accurate lip-sync.
