Moola

Inspiration

The Moola team created this app to consolidate all the information the everyday investor needs in order to make the best judgements regarding their investments.

What it does

Moola displays information about the stocks that the investor is currently invested in. This information includes the recent stock prices, public sentiments about the company, along with approval and disapproval ratings.

How we built it

We used Yahoo-Finance API, Capital-One API, Azure, and IBM Watson in order to extract real financial data as well as scrape news articles for public opinions on companies.

We ran into challenges with our natural language processing as well as deploying Azure.

I worked on the backend of this project. I used the webhose API to get current articles about a specific company. I then aggregated these results, and fed it into IBM Watson's Tone Analyzer API, which gave me feedback on a variety of parameters, such as anger, joy, disgust, emotional range, and tentativeness. I used the same news data, and processed it with the Microsoft Text Analytics Sentiment API, which gave me a positivity score from 0 to 1. With the results of both the APIs, I was able to provide users with current insights into public/investor opinion on the companies in their portfolio.
