Inspiration
The inspiration for MoodTunes came from the growing need for mental wellness tools that help individuals manage their emotions through music. With the increasing prevalence of stress and anxiety in daily life, we wanted to create an application that not only provides music recommendations but also encourages users to reflect on their moods and emotional states.
What it does
MoodTunes is a mood-based music application that allows users to log their feelings, receive personalized music recommendations, and analyze their mood patterns over time. The app features user authentication for personalized experiences, mood logging with optional descriptions, and music recommendations based on the user's current mood using the Last.fm API and mood analysis that provides insights and suggestions to improve emotional well-being.
How I built it
I built MoodTunes using Python and the PyQt5 framework in Juypter Notebook for the graphical user interface. The application integrates with the Last.fm API to fetch music recommendations based on user-inputted moods and utilized the matplotlib library to create visual representations of mood data.
Challenges I ran into
During the development of MoodTunes, I faced several challenges:
API Integration: Ensuring smooth communication with the Last.fm API and handling potential errors in fetching data.
Data Management: Storing and managing users' mood logs efficiently while ensuring data privacy.
User Interface Design: Creating an intuitive and visually appealing interface that enhances user experience.
Accomplishments that I am proud of
Developing a responsive and user-friendly interface that enhances the overall user experience and implementing a mood-logging feature that helps users track their emotional states over time.
What I learned
Throughout the development process, I learned about the importance of user feedback in shaping features and improving usability as well as how to effectively integrate third-party APIs and manage asynchronous data fetching.
What's next for MoodTunes
Looking ahead, I plan to enhance MoodTunes by implementing machine learning algorithms to provide deeper insights based on user mood trends as well as adding social features that allow users to share their experiences and coping strategies.
