The past year has been especially difficult, and we wanted to create something that could help bring a little more happiness into the world. From our experience, we found that looking at cute or funny pictures of animals brightened our mood. With this in mind, we wanted to share this experience with a community online that needs a little dose of happiness in their daily lives.
What it does
Moodtastic is a collection of pooled resources that can effectively cheer people up. From cute animals to funny tik-toks that trigger the release of oxytocin, it can be accessed with the click of a few buttons. Workout videos, recipes, and blogs will also be included to help increase dopamine and serotonin levels and release endorphins, increasing the much needed happy hormone levels.
How I built it
We built the website with HTML and CSS. We pulled images from the internet to put on the website, similar to how a user would submit. We also included blogs that we found helpful in achieving the website’s goal of increasing happiness.
Challenges I ran into
We came into this hackathon with no knowledge of coding so we tried our best to learn through various videos and blogs. We simultaneously learned the basics of HTML and CSS while creating the project, illustrating the learn by doing motto!
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Although we came into this with no coding knowledge, we managed to make a functional viewable website as a solution to our problem.
What I learned
We learned that coding doesn’t have to be reserved for those studying computer science/computer engineering/related majors. Anyone can learn to code something in a short span of time, especially with the many resources that technology now offers. From this project, we developed basic skills of HTML and CSS.
What's next for Moodtastic
We hope to develop a mobile app for easier accessibility with improved features such as allowing users to rate content posted on the site.
