Inspiration

Sometimes, people often know how they feel, but don’t know what to do about it. It may be stress from school, anxiety about the future, etc. Most mental health tools help users identify their emotions, and stop there, but I wanted to build something that goes further, something that actually helps people respond to those emotions in the moment.

What it does

The goal was to create an experience where a user could tap a single mood and instantly receive meaningful support. From that one input, the app generates three types of therapy: movement exercises to physically release tension, generative music to shift emotional state, and art prompts to encourage reflection and expression.

How we built it

I used AI models from Anthropic to transform a mood into structured, personalized therapy content. Each response is tailored to the emotional state, making the experience feel specific rather than something common. One of the most unique parts of the project is the music system. Using Tone.js, the app generates real-time soundscapes directly in the browser. It creates different tempos, keys, and sound textures, creating unique listening experiences for each emotion.

Challenges we ran into

Building MoodSpace came with challenges. One of the challenges was making the app feel instant and easy to use while still delivering meaningful, high-quality content. Designing the generative music system was also challenging, requiring creative thinking to connect emotion with sound. MoodSpace is about making support more accessible. There’s no login, no cost, and no barrier to entry. It’s designed to meet users where they are and help them.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I built a platform that is instantly usable, accessible, and deeply responsive. MoodSpace combines technology, creativity, and user-centered design. The generative music system, in particular, stands out as an emotional insight that turns into a sensory, actionable experience.

What we learned

I learned how to combine technology with creativity in a purposeful way. I also began to think more deeply about how digital tools can better support mental health. This project shows that AI can be used not just for tasks but to create tools that are empathetic, responsive, and genuinely helpful.

What's next for MoodSpace

MoodSpace hopes to expand its impact and reach. I plan to offer a wider range of modalities, enhance personalization with artificial intelligence, and use research and user feedback to improve platform features. I will also increase accessibility across languages and devices. My goal is to make MoodSpace a platform that delivers support and encourages ongoing emotional growth, reflection, and self-care for all users.
