Inspiration

I've always been fascinated by the emotional power of sound. I play several instruments and often turn to music and ambient textures as a way to reflect or shift my own inner state. The idea for MoodRemi came from this personal connection: I wanted to create something that uses sound as a tool for emotional alignment, combined with breath and words simple elements that work together in harmony.

What it does

MoodRemi offers short, guided sessions (1–5 minutes) that help users quickly reset their emotional state through a combination of:

  • Breathing cues – instructions to regulate the breath and calm the nervous system
  • Layered ambient soundscapes – soothing background sounds (e.g., pads, rain, bowls, wind) mixed in real-time based on the user's selected mood
  • On-screen affirmations – calming, supportive phrases that appear at key moments to reinforce focus, self-kindness, and emotional clarity

The user simply selects how they feel (or want to feel), and MoodRemi generates a personalized micro-session — like a quick emotional refresh — to support that shift.

Each session is designed to be simple, calming, and easy to fit into any moment of the day.

How we built it

MoodRemi was built solo during the hackathon as a focused MVP. The core idea was to generate short emotional reset sessions combining three elements: breathing guidance, layered ambient soundscapes, and positive affirmations – all based on the user's selected mood.

Stack & tools used:

  • Platforms & IDEs: bolt.new + cursor for polishing
  • Frontend: Next.js, Tailwind
  • DB & Auth: Supabase

The sound library is hand-curated and categorized by tags to enable mood-based combinations.

Challenges we ran into

  • Smooth audio layering: Making ambient loops feel natural when stacked dynamically - without clashing or abrupt transitions.
  • Balancing structure and freedom: Creating enough variation to make sessions feel fresh, while keeping the experience simple and predictable.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Built a fully working MVP in just a few days — including login, session engine, UI, and sound design.
  • Created a system that dynamically mixes audio and voice into a cohesive, emotionally meaningful flow.
  • Designed a clean interface that reflects the calm, mindful purpose of the app.

What we learned

I explored how different types of sounds affect focus and relaxation, experimented with session scripting and timing, and dove into combining AI logic with mood-based input to generate personalized soundscapes.

What's next for MoodRemi

I have a lot of ideas for how MoodRemi could grow. First of all, I’d like to turn it into a full mobile app - that feels like the natural next step.

Some features I’m thinking about adding: session builder, favorites, mood tracking.
