Moodly Cards

Inspiration

We noticed that students still exchange Instagram usernames, phone numbers, or paper business cards when meeting new people at events, hackathons, and college campuses. It often takes time, people forget to connect later, and paper cards are easy to lose. We wanted to make networking as simple as a single tap.

What we built

Moodly Cards is an NFC-powered smart profile card. Users create their digital profile once, and then they can instantly share it by tapping their card on any NFC-enabled phone or by letting others scan the QR code. The profile can include social media links, contact details, portfolio, website, and other important information.

We also added a simple dashboard where users can manage and update their profile anytime without changing the physical card.

How we built it

  • Frontend: React & Next.js
  • Backend & Database: Supabase
  • Authentication: Supabase Auth
  • Hosting: Vercel
  • Hardware: NFC cards with QR codes

The main goal was to make the experience fast, mobile-friendly, and easy for anyone to use.

Challenges we faced

One of the biggest challenges was making the NFC cards work reliably across different Android devices while also ensuring iPhone users could access profiles easily using QR codes when needed.

Another challenge was designing a profile that looks clean while still allowing users to add all the important information they want to share. We also worked on making profile updates happen instantly so users never need to replace their card.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

One of our biggest achievements was making smart NFC profile cards affordable without compromising on quality. By optimizing our platform and production process, we brought the starting price down to just $1.20 per card, making digital networking accessible to students and professionals alike.

Instead of offering only a single premium option, we introduced two color variants—Minimal White and Midnight Black—along with two premium texture finishes, giving users the freedom to choose a card that matches their personal style.

We also built a system where users can update their digital profile anytime without replacing their physical card. This makes Moodly Cards a reusable, sustainable, and cost-effective alternative to traditional business cards while delivering a premium experience at an affordable price.

What we learned

Building Moodly Cards taught us a lot about NFC technology, digital identity, responsive web design, and backend services with Supabase. We also learned how important user experience is—every extra step during networking reduces the chance that people actually connect.

What's next

We plan to expand Moodly Cards with more customization options, analytics for profile visits, team and organization profiles, and rewards that encourage users to grow their professional network. Our vision is to make Moodly Cards the easiest way for students, creators, and professionals to connect in the real world.
