Inspiration:

Although at Spark we had been given the theme of "mental health," what inspired us to create this project goes well beyond this circumstance. People searching for podcasts, tips, relaxation music only wastes time. With our app, it's all in one place. We take in account of the circumstances around the world - COVID-19. This is why we have a gratefulness section - a section that teaches users to find the good in their day to day life. Creating an app for a purpose - the well being of our audience is also a key factor in the creation. Unlike Spotify, we research, find, and create these recordings. As a result, we believe it brings more value. Our inspiration was our motivation to bring the best on the table for users. This design should also be something that has value in the market for the next 10 years. It should also be something that has room for improvement.

What it does

Mood-Pixel is an app that provides users with e-journaling, tips and tricks, guided meditations, and relaxation music. It is a close replacement of therapy. When in a negative mood, one can listen and calm down.

How we built it

We used an IDE named Scratch. This easy to use, but complex Integrated Development Environment gave us the chance to build an app. We have multiple codes that allow this to occur. Most of it related to the "event" code block. The bottomline is that whenever each sprite is clicked, the background must change, explaining the use of a background code. This IDE is similar to MIT APP Inventor, and Marvel!

Challenges we ran into

At first we were stuck on how to change different settings when one sprite was clicked. This is seen in the menu backdrop where there are 4 sections users can choose from. After a user choose a section, we did not know how to make the other tabs disappear and a new sprite to show. With a little help of Mentor Mabin, we figured out that we would have to create different backdrops after once each tab is clicked.

Accomplishments that we proud of

We are truly proud of the teamwork while building this APP. Even though, one of the members were new to the group, we still managed to work together, collaborate, and cooperate. With our pitch, we have multiple business ideas. For example a logo, company name, jingle, Instagram page, fake phone number, which provides a sense of trust. This makes us stand out, and leave a mark on the users mind. The skit shows the story of how our app benefits our users by helping their mental health. We believe we did not "bore" the audience, because we did not jot points, but rather used an interactive skit. With our supported PowToon, we discussed how this app works. We also showed a demonstration.

What we learned

We learned, when developing, or performing any task it is quality over quantity. Even though our app was not fully developed we also learned the "programming mindset." If we do not tell the right code, or even if it was slightly off, it makes a large impact. We have to learn to think like a computer. A computer will only do as much as we tell it to do. Pitch wise, we learned how to create an interesting video. Astawa Alam taught us to follow a storyline, rather than putting all the information out there. It is more interesting when we make up a person - a person who is a representation of the millions out there, that unconsciously are also in need of this app and what we have to offer.

What's next for Mood-Pixel

We are working on building a back button, so that users can go back from any backdrop without having to restart the app. For users who want to, they can make an account, so that the app stores their information, and gets to know them better, and therefore can give personalized suggestions for their mental health. A Premium feature is also next for Mood-Pixel. In this, we are working on having a 24/7 therapy service for when users E-Journal. With the recordings, we are trying to add a new recording once a week! Also new categories of recordings, such as yoga. To improve even further, we aim to send off surveys to school boards to see which age group is most in need of this app, and how we can improve it for each age group. Once this app gets popular, we want to advertise it in other countries. Thank-you to the amazing executives, mentors, judges, and workshop hosts to help us through this journey! When premium comes out, it is $3/month.
