🌟 Inspiration

We were inspired to create Moo’d because many mood-tracking apps feel sterile and detached from real life. We wanted to craft an experience that felt warm, engaging, and fun—a digital space where users can express themselves, reflect, and grow. The idea of a customizable cow companion came from the comfort and joy that animals and playful design bring, transforming mood tracking into something that feels natural and supportive.

💡 What it does

Moo’d makes daily mood check-ins a delightful habit. Users complete simple surveys to track their emotions, earn points for each check-in, and use those points to customize their digital cow buddy. Our dashboard visualizes progress over time, and the Quote of the Day adds a touch of daily inspiration. Notifications provide gentle reminders, and the customizable pet serves as both a reward and a reflection of the user’s journey.

🛠️ How we built it

We designed Moo’d’s interface using Figma, focusing on a friendly, intuitive user experience. The app was developed with SwiftUI for iOS, integrating Firebase Authentication and Firestore to securely handle user data and progress. We created custom illustrations and playful UI elements, blending them with smooth animations and real-time updates. Our focus on UX and UI design helped us ensure the app feels approachable and visually engaging. We plan to publish Moo’d on the App Store soon, bringing this experience to more users.

🚧 Challenges we ran into

We faced the challenge of syncing real-time data with Firestore while ensuring the app stays responsive and smooth. Designing the point system and cow customization flow in a way that feels rewarding but not overwhelming took a lot of iteration. Navigating Apple’s privacy guidelines and ensuring secure user authentication was also a learning curve.

🎉 Accomplishments that we’re proud of

We’re proud of turning the idea of mood tracking into an interactive, playful journey that people can look forward to each day. Seeing the digital cow respond to progress and the surveys flow smoothly was a big moment for us. We also take pride in blending design and functionality to create an app that’s both useful and delightful.

📚 What we learned

We honed our skills in SwiftUI, Firebase, and iOS app development, while also gaining a deeper understanding of designing user-friendly interfaces with Figma. We learned how to craft seamless, intuitive user flows, and how to build an app that not only functions well but brings users joy. Balancing security, privacy, and UX was a rewarding challenge.

🔮 What’s next for Moo’d

We’re excited to expand Moo’d with more personalized mood content, richer goal-setting features, and even deeper customization options for the digital cow. We plan to integrate HealthKit to pull in physical activity and sleep data, creating a holistic wellness companion. Accessibility improvements, multi-language support, and social features to connect users are also on our roadmap. And of course, we can’t wait to share Moo’d with the world through the App Store soon!
