Inspiration: We chose to do this project as it seemed to have the most flexibility out of all the potential projects and allowed us to combine our front end and back end knowledge.
What it does: We created a dashboard to present the amount of crimes committed in each precinct as well as the most common crime. We also created two search methods that can be used later to add the dashboard.
How we built it
We used nextJS and tailwind for our frontend and Pandas and Plotly to support our backend visuals and data calculations.
Challenges we ran into
As this was our first datathon we struggled at first to find out what we wanted to do and how to implement it. Further integrating plotly with our front end was more challenging then we had thought originally.
What we learned
We learned a lot about data science and how to effectively use pandas to parse CSVs and use plotly to create visualizations.
What's next for Montreal Crime Analysis
We want to integrate a search feature into the dashboard to provide more information to users in order to let them create their own conclusions.
