Inspiration

Because we are all the change!

What it does

Montr is a web application that monitors and communicates daily changes in weather. The ultimate mission of Montr is to raise awareness of Global Warming’s effect on everyone on the planet - not just those who have ready access to tracking resources and technologies.

This system is notably very sustainable and enables long term use. Montr will run as a web application on hyper-portable computers that are inexpensive, solar powered, and independent of a wireless connection. This allows for a more ready sharing of information throughout communities, regardless of their ability to invest heavily in technology.

How I built it

Resources Used:

Prototype (Wix) Recurrent Neural Network (Google Colaboratory) Geolocation API (Google Cloud Platform Services) Timezone API (Google Cloud Platform Services) Google Cloud Platform Services ID - montr-231914

Hardware:

Arduino 101 Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Sunwalk 5.5W 5V Monocrystalline Silicon Solar Charger Panel

Challenges I ran into

I did not have time to build a fully functioning web application from scratch. So, instead, I focused my energy on the Recurrent Neural Network and build the web page with WIX.

What I learned

I definitely took away - how to manage my time efficiently! I knew that I could design a more depictive prototype if I spent less time on run-time errors in a fully function JS web app!

What's next for Montr - Environmental Awareness

Montr at Georgetown:

The Georgetown University Makerhub has Arduino systems that are available for use for educational purposes. I plan on using these to build three fully functioning prototypes by May 2019.

I am submitting a proposal to the Georgetown University 2019 - Laudato Si’ Fund.

Today, I submitted a proposal to the Georgetown SIPS Fund Social Impact and Sustainability.

With proposed funding, I would hope to expand the system to 15 total sets by May 2019.

Montr outside of Georgetown:

I have arranged a lunch meeting with the Palmetto Clean Energy DC team on March 8th at 12:30 pm. Here I will discuss the potential impacts of this initiative on Global Sustainability.

The CSJ Alternative Breaks Program (Spring Break’19) who may be able to put these to best use at their destinations. As a board member of CSJ ABSO - I am actively reaching out to locations that may find these useful!
