Inspiration

My inspiration for this app came from what I spent part of my summer doing: exercising outside! I wanted to spice up the idea of a basic run tracker by adding in monsters. In my vision, the app tracks your route and pace, and the monster starts off behind you and follows your same route. Players would chose from a range of monsters with different speed difficulty levels.

What it does

The app tracks your location using Radar.io and MapKit.

How I built it

I built it in Xcode using Swift with Xcode's built-in location services along with Radar.io.

Challenges I ran into

This was a tricky project for me as I've never built an app in Xcode before, so I had to learn Swift and Xcode in the last day. I also have never tried my hand at any kind of geocoding or location implementation. So, I learned a lot this weekend, even though I don't have a detailed project to show.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm proud of how much I learned this weekend. All the technology I used was entirely new to me, so I really challenged myself to think on my feet and adapt. I'm proud of all the effort I put into this project as well.

What I learned

I learned some Swift language (implementing variables, defining functions, how to use optional values, etc.). I also learned more about GPS tracking.

What's next for Monster Run

Fixing some of the bugs with location services and showing the route tracking on the map
