Inspiration

I was inspired by the idea of making images stand out by keeping the main subject vibrant while giving the background a unique, artistic twist.

Monotone AI was born from the desire to create a tool that helps users make their photos more eye-catching and creative.

What it does

Monotone AI allows users to upload an image, and it then turns the background into grayscale while keeping the main object in full color.

You can further edit the image by adjusting things like blur, brightness, contrast, and more to create the perfect look.

How I built it

I used Next.js for the frontend and implemented image processing with AI to detect and separate the main object from the background.

Tailwind CSS and shadcn/ui helped me create a clean, responsive interface. The editing tools were added to let users fine-tune their images.

Challenges I ran into

One of the biggest challenges was accurately identifying the main object in the image and ensuring the background was properly transformed to grayscale without affecting the subject.

Implementing the editing features like brightness and contrast adjustments also took some time to perfect.

What's next for Monotone AI

I plan to add more advanced editing features like filters and effects.

I’m also looking into adding options for users to adjust the level of grayscale or color intensity, giving them even more control over their images.
