Inspiration
The popularity of board games in general, and Monopoly in particular, served as the impetus for the development of Monopoly Classic. Because of the proliferation of electronic media, we decided it was time to update the classic board game Monopoly for today's audiences by including digital elements.
What it does
I set out to build a digital adaptation of the traditional board game to be played whenever and wherever participants liked it. The game's goal is to amass the most wealth by purchasing properties and collecting rent from your fellow players. To begin, players select a token to represent themselves and a starting bankroll from which to work. Each player takes turns rolling the dice and moving their tokens around the board, landing on different spaces representing different properties and events. A player can acquire a piece of land not already owned if they land on it. Rent must be paid if they land on someone else's property. Players can increase their income by constructing hotels and other buildings on their properties. Cards like the Community Chest and Chance cards can help or hinder players depending on the situation.
How we built it
During the creation of the Monopoly Classic project, Python and the Pygame package was utilized. Python was used to design the gameplay logic and rules, while the Pygame module was utilized to provide the game's visuals and interface. Pygame provided us with the tools necessary to create a game that was visually appealing and simple to play. Python and Pygame allowed us to create a digital version of the famous board game Monopoly. We were able to play it on our computers.
Challenges we ran into
Creating an attractive, easy-to-use interface was also difficult. We had to ensure players could readily access all features and options and that the game was straightforward. Despite these obstacles, we are proud of our project. The enjoyable and challenging Monopoly game is now fully working. The game is balanced, and the AI opponent challenges humans. This project taught us the necessity of user-friendly interfaces, balanced game mechanics, and sophisticated AI opponents. We also learned how to use the Pygame library to make beautiful games. We plan to add online multiplayer, enhanced AI, and more game modes to the project. We want to make the best digital Monopoly game.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We took great care to ensure that every aspect of the game, from the visuals to the gameplay mechanics, is as faithful to the source material as was humanly possible. This comprises the well-known game board, the many attributes, and the various actions players can do when engaged in the game. We hope that by doing this, we will be able to provide fans of the original Monopoly game with a nostalgic and fun experience.
What we learned
During the course of our study on game design and development, we were also made aware of the significance of the user interface of the game as well as the player experience. A lesson was also taught to us on the importance of thoroughly playtesting games before they are made available to the public. We realized how important it was to cooperate with one another on a project, as well as how important it was to arrive on time and be well prepared. We are delighted to introduce a contemporary version of the classic board game Monopoly that players of any age may find fun and engage.
What's next for Monopoly Classic
We hope to eventually implement online multiplayer features into the Monopoly Classic project so that players worldwide can compete against each other in real-time. We also plan to make a dynamic leaderboard highlighting the best players and their accomplishments. We want to provide more personalized options and in-depth lessons for novice players to make the game more approachable.
