Inspiration

As college students ourselves we have experienced financial issues, we understand the need to save money and do budgeting. Therefore we have been inspired by our own situations to create an app that can help with this problem.

What it does

This app develops the best possible budgeting plan for students who struggle with their finances. Based on a monthly basis, the student enters how much they are spending and what they are spending on, and based on that, the application will develop a budgeting plan through a calculated algorithm developed in the backend.

How we built it

We mainly used a lot of Figma, but also used a program called Visual Studio. We ideated and developed most of the layout in Figma, then developed a basic prototype with VS.

Challenges we ran into

  • Staying awake long enough to submit on time, ahah
  • It was very difficult navigating the android emulator
  • Difficulty with time management
  • A lot of outside factors kept some of us from completing tasks on time
  • First time in a hackathon for many of us

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • The use of font and colour
  • The development of the concept and the good use of Figma
  • The development of a cool prototype in such little time

What we learned

  • We learned a lot about time management and working with a team on such short timing
  • We became more adept at Figma and Visual Studio
  • We learned what the IXD experience is like, even if it's on a smaller scale
  • The importance of communication and how all our ideas are combined ot create this new idea

What's next for MoneyWise

we will look into adding more features and possibly exploring more potential visual keys, such as developing a better logo and simplifying things more. We will also do more research into making a user's experience a lot more beginner friendly, if it is possible to go further, and explore further possibilities with the algorithm. We will conduct more usability tests and fix the app accordingly.
