Inspiration
We wanted to created a fun and interactive way for people to improve their financial literacy.
What it does
Our program teaches financial tips using a fun quiz format, while also allowing them to apply their knowledge learned through our app by participating through a simulation that lets them invest their assets and see the different results from the diffferent routes that they can take.
How we built it
We build our app using the pygame library in Python. All of the program is coded in Python. We took a bottom-up approach, starting with the loading screen and adding functionality gradually.
Challenges we ran into
In the beginning we often ran into merge conflicts when using git. We had to learn how to use Git with greater efficiency and collaboration in mind to address these challenges.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
All of us were new to pygame, so we're especially proud of the job we did. We were really happy that we were able to finish the game and present a finished version, considering this was our first experiences ever in the world of game development.
What we learned
For half our team, this was the first Hackathon, so able to learn a lot about working in teams and using version control systems like git.
What's next for Moneyville
We'd love to add more content to different houses on the map as well as adding different ways people can invest their money, including simulation a more risky approach to money like betting, investing in real estate, and experimenting with more stable investments like gold.
