Inspiration

I didn't want to build another cost-tracking app, so I decided to be creative and get out of my comfort zone and build a fun game.

What it does

You chose a role (Student, Employee, or Entrepreneur). You have 10 turns to reach a certain level of wealth while also maintaining a satisfactory quality of life. You can make decisions like 'Eat Out Regularly', which increases quality of life but decreases wealth, or "Invest in stocks", which decreases QoL but increases wealth. This way, players learn that decisions made now will have consequences later.

How we built it

I was unsure whether to build this in Python or as a web app, and I ended up using React and TypeScript to prototype it quickly.

Challenges we ran into

This is my first time building a game, so a lot of the mechanics were unfamiliar to me. Ideation was the hardest part.

Building the whole thing in less than a week!

Balancing game mechanics + storytelling + making it educational.
