Inspiration

Managing personal finances is an essential life skill, yet many people lack the knowledge to make informed financial decisions. We wanted to create a fun, engaging way to teach people of all ages about money management, budgeting, and investing.

What it does

MoneyMentor is a quiz game designed to teach players about money through multiple-choice questions. Players answer questions on topics like budgeting, saving, and investing, with each question providing four options to choose from. The game offers immediate feedback, explanations for correct answers, and tips to reinforce learning.

How we built it

We built MoneyMentor using Python for the game logic and employed a GUI library, such as Tkinter or PyQt, to create an intuitive interface. The quiz questions and answers are stored in an SQLite database, allowing easy updates and expansion. The design phase focused on creating a diverse range of questions that cater to different aspects of financial literacy.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge was creating questions that were both educational and engaging. It was important to ensure that the answer choices were plausible enough to encourage critical thinking without being too difficult. Additionally, designing a feedback system that provided meaningful explanations required careful planning.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of creating a quiz game that makes learning about money straightforward and enjoyable. Developing a wide variety of questions and integrating a feedback system that enhances understanding were significant achievements.

What we learned

We learned a lot about financial literacy concepts, quiz game design, and database integration. Working as a team also taught us the importance of clear communication and dividing tasks efficiently.

What's next for MoneyMentor

We plan to expand the game by adding more quiz categories, such as entrepreneurship and advanced investment strategies. We’d also like to incorporate a leaderboard to encourage competition and release a mobile version to reach a broader audience.
