Inspiration
When travelling overseas, it is very troublesome to split the bill for something like transport, food expenses etc. There are existing app that does the job to help you split the bill however, they do not come with currency conversion or auto-deduction from the money you owe to someone and the money you lend to someone. More often than not, we have to do these calculations manually.
What it does
Now introducing MoneyBox that can solve those problems for you! Not only that, it comes with an expense tracker as well to track how many money you left for your spending quota and also analysis to see where have you spent the most money in to help you save money!
How we built it
We store our data in Java database and does the necessary calculations there as well. With the help of Figma, we prototyped our App design to give the audience a better sense of how our app works.
Challenges we ran into
It was a struggle to develop something being in a 2 members team and both of us having limited coding ability at this stage. Being a Year 1 Computer Science student who is just starting my computing journey and together with a Electrical Engineering student whose main focus isn't coding, it was a struggle to develop a feasible idea for this hackathon.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Nevertheless, we are still proud that through acquiring the necessary skills via self-learning on the spot during this hackathon, we managed to present a brainchild for an App that has the potential to grow and also believed to be useful for a huge audience.
What we learned
Nothing is impossible when you put your mind into it. Java is still a relatively new language for myself and Figma is also not a tool that my teammate is familiar with given her course of study. However, we bit the bullet and endured thru the hardship when teaching ourselves these skills to come up with this project.
What's next for MoneyBox
Hopefully as we progress on, we hope that this prototype presented in Figma can be developed into an actual workable app.
