Inspiration

Don't you hate it when you felt bored and had nothing to do? My team attempted to solve the problem of the lack of quick and simple entertainment apps. We have seen plenty of different types of apps in the app store and thought of something new but also is useful in everyday life.

What's it do?

Money tap is a simplistic app where the player taps a red envelope and receives a random amount of money in a certain range from the envelope. The idea originated from Chinese culture in which money was put inside of a red envelop as monetary gifts when there were annual holidays such as the Chinese New Year. The game can be used for fun and competition for highest scores among friends. It also can be use for decision making in the real world.

How I built it

I used MIT App Inventor to build my app and it uses block languages for programming. With the help of the use of some previous projects we programmed, using the knowledge of those projects aided us greatly in the development of Money Tap. My team drew out the concepts of the app and split the work among each teammate to work on different component of the app.

Challenges I ran into

My team is still new to programming apps and we had went through various challenges when we coded this app. We passed a sort of trial and error situation, other words, we learned along the way we coded. Our problem was learning code in general since it was frustrating at times. The scoreboard was also fairly difficult to implement since we had little to no knowledge on scoreboard, we managed to make it work to some extent but still work on it to this day. Other than the previous, coding was a fairly smooth ride and the experience was fun.

What I learned

The Money Tap development team has learned quite a few skills during the entire project. More notably of these skills would be teamwork, time management and of course, coding.

What's next for Money Tap?

We will implement more features, complete the scoreboard, and completely polish the game as a whole with a more pleasing User Interface and graphics. We'll also be adding features that may enhance the educational aspect of the game such as mathematics. Along that, we're planning on adding a sort of "whack-a-mole" mode where it puts hand-eye coordination to the test. We hope to improve greatly on the potential that Money Tap may offer.
