Inspiration
As students, we need to be careful with what we buy. There are many things we'd love to buy, but the money is better used for food and tuition. We built MoneySaver to track when users make the right choice and save money for something more important, encouraging good saving habits.
What it does
Any time you're going to buy something but decide to save the money to use later, log the amount and what you were about to buy into MoneySaver. Over time you'll see how much these decisions add to your savings. On top of that by saving money you can unlock cool themes to use within the app!
How we built it
We built the app using react-native. It was our first time using this technology or building any mobile app for that matter.
Challenges we ran into
Setting up our development environment in react-native for the first time was difficult. The setup and installation, for the framework as well as the emulators was more difficult than we expected. We worked together to get through this and start building our app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Building our first mobile app in a short amount of time and collaborating effectively!
What we learned
How to write cross-platform code in react native and test it on both physical and virtual devices
What's next for Money Saver
More achievements and themes to unlock and also deploying to the app store!
