Inspiration

Many immigrants arriving in the U.S. from the American continent face significant challenges when navigating the complex financial system. They often lack access to reliable financial guidance, making building credit, managing money, or establishing a solid financial foundation difficult. This lack of knowledge and support can lead to poor financial decisions, increased debt, and difficulty achieving long-term economic stability. Without proper guidance, immigrants are left to navigate these challenges alone, making it harder to adapt and thrive in their new environment.

What it does

Our web app is designed to provide immigrants with the financial guidance they need to succeed in the U.S. By creating a personalized financial profile through a comprehensive registration form, we can assess where each individual stands and offer tailored recommendations. From building credit scores and managing debt to providing financial literacy education, budgeting advice, and retirement planning, our app serves as a one-stop solution to help users improve their financial health. We aim to empower immigrants with the knowledge and tools needed to build a strong financial foundation and achieve their goals.

How we built it

We built the web app using a combination of modern technologies to ensure both scalability and user-friendliness. The frontend was developed with React.js, which allowed us to create an intuitive and responsive user interface. For the backend, we used Flask, a lightweight Python framework, to handle the application’s logic, database operations, and API requests. We used SQLAlchemy as the ORM for managing our database, which stores users' financial profiles and tracks their progress over time.

What we learned

Throughout this project, we learned the importance of effective communication and collaboration in a fast-paced development environment. We also gained a deeper understanding of financial systems, including credit scores, budgeting strategies, and debt management, which enabled us to create more relevant and valuable recommendations for users. Additionally, working with APIs and managing a full-stack application gave us new insights into web development and the potential of technology in solving real-world problems.
