Inspiration
The inspiration behind Money Mentor was the lack of interesting and enjoyable ways for people to learn about financial information that they require for their daily lives. As a result, we came up with the solution of creating an interactive 2D Web app, accessible to almost all ages and demographics. The style of the app is reminiscent of old-school sprite-based RPGs, due to the simplicity and intuitiveness of the design. Unlike many other apps that teach financial education, Money Mentor provides bite-sized stories for the user to follow along, and attempt to solve situations that they may have faced in their own day-to-day lives.
What it does
It teaches users valuable financial information through story-based scenarios. Users can interact with a 2D world and talk to multiple NPCs in order to solve their issues, as a financial advisor.
How we built it
The base of the web app was built using the Phaser JavaScript Library.
Frontend: React Backend: JavaScript, TypeScript Version Control: Git
Challenges we ran into
We faced many challenges with dealing with a new codebase and tech stack.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to successfully achieve the core objectives of the project.
What we learned
We learnt how to create a 2d rpg style interactive game using new technologies.
What's next for Money Mentor
Expansion of maps to different worlds and interactive buildings. Different scenarios may impact other scenarios. AI generated scenarios on the fly, with scenarios affecting the game environment in real-time.
